When does the ChatGPT limit reset?
There is no single ChatGPT reset. Each metered feature has its own window, and since text chat became unlimited in August 2026 the old “daily message limit” no longer exists. Here is every reset OpenAI documents, and how to read the ones it does not.

When does the ChatGPT limit reset?
It depends on which allowance you hit. Reasoning limits show a reset time in the message. File uploads use a rolling three-hour window (80 files) and a daily cap on Free (3 files). Deep research resets 30 days after your first use. Business seat allowances use five-hour windows.
Is there still a daily message limit?
No. Since August 2026 text chat is unlimited on every plan. The “daily limit” people remember applied to older models and to features like images.
Does the limit reset at midnight?
Not as a rule. Most ChatGPT allowances are rolling windows measured from your usage, or fixed cycles like the 30-day research cycle. Trust the time in the message, not the clock.
Can I speed up a reset?
No. OpenAI Support does not reset usage limits, and a second account violates the usage policies.
Why is my reset time different from a friend’s?
Because windows are measured from when each person used the feature, and plan tiers differ. Two people on the same plan will see different times.
What should I do while waiting?
